CRISP…Community Reading Intensive Support Program
Each week we have the most wonderful band of over twenty volunteer tutors who come in to our school to assist students with literacy. Many of these people are community members and business people without a particular connection to our school who came to us wanting to help children achieve their potential. They were welcomed with open arms! We have parents and grandparents from our school families involved as well. The program has run for two terms and each child receives three, half hour sessions per week of individual instruction which is overseen by our support teacher, Mrs Bev Hordern. The tutors have all received training and are committed to the consistent implementation of the program. The progress in skills, the increase in confidence and the palpable ‘buzz' in the room are fabulous to witness. We are indeed indebted to these people who give so willingly of their time. We know though, that they really enjoy their time with our children who show great determination regarding their work and wonderful manners to our tutors. We will soon celebrate the culmination of our program with an afternoon tea at which the tutors are thanked and the students are congratulated on their achievements. Another successful example of our school and its community working together!
